Department of transport services is responsible for the public transport and county roads in Sogn og Fjordane. The department manages the public bus and boat services in the county. The department oversees the school transport service of the county. The county invests heavily in youth-oriented initiatives. Schemes such as “Safe home for a 50 crown bill”, Local transport services for the youth, youth cards and flexible school transport services are established to give youths a good and safe public transport service.
From January 1st, 2010, the county took the responsibility for the “other” national road network over from the state. This comprises a total of 2575 km of county roads. There is an agreement between the county and Statens Vegvesen for the operation of the road network. As per this agreement, the county has the overall responsibility for following up the county road network, while Statens Vegvesen is responsible for the daily operations and construction of roads on behalf of the county.
