High school education for youth and adults is the largest service area for the county council in Sogn og Fjordane. The county has 14 colleges which can take 4500 students. Most high schools offer both academic preparatory and vocational education programs. The county is also responsible for 708 apprentices and trainees who receive advanced training in trade and industry. In addition, the Technical College in Sogn og Fjordane offers courses to 156 students in technical and maritime subjects.

The department of education, with its 34 employees, has the administrative responsibility for youth and adults getting a good high school education which leads to study qualifications, certificates of apprenticeship, certificates in crafts or other expertise. In addition to its administrative staff, the department has 3 departments: Admission and notification, quality and development and exams and documentation.
