The county of Sogn og Fjordane is an organized cooperation for solving public issues. The main issues are found within the areas of education, dental health, public transport services, county roads, culture, business development, energy politics and planning.

In addition, the county is an important provider of services needed by everyone, on a daily basis. As a service provider, the county is a large company with an annual turnover of 1.2 billion kroner with more than 1300 employees, corresponding to 1100 man-years.
The county is the administrative level between the state and the municipalities of the county. It is governed by the residents of the county through their own political organs. The county is thus a tool for the people of Sogn og Fjordane helping them develop the region and also a tool for the parliament and the government in the implementation of the national objectives.
